Unit One Proposal Brainstorm

Proposed with finding the solution to a challenge that relates to my life currently I find myself more drawn to finding issues to solve with my past job or within my neighborhood at home.

The first topic that immediately came to mind was solving the problem of propeller guards on the coach boats at the yacht club I worked for over the summer. I believe that propeller guards can be a hinderance to safety rather than an improvement upon it and, in my opinion, there are many better options for improving motor boat safety at the club without the needless expense of prop guards.

The second topic that came to mind was the parking issues in my hometown neighborhood. I live in a townhouse community with alleyways leading into garages. There is street parking, but it is pretty limited. One issue we have been facing is people parking illegally and taking up fire lanes and overall cramming the limited space we already have on the roads in my neighborhood. This is an issue because it is a private neighborhood meaning there is no way to have law enforcement make any citations. It also becomes difficult when visitors, like my grandparents who have trouble walking longer distances, cannot find a place to park within two blocks of the house. It is also a problem when visitors start parking in the alleyways making it almost impossible for people to park in their garages.

There will likely be more ideas that I come up with, but these are the two that came to mind immediately for me.
